The 11th grade final exam will be a writing portfolio maintained throughout the entire academic year. This portfolio will consist of a four to five page research paper, several essays, a debate assessment, and a GUM (grammar, usage & mechanics) assessment.

The 11th grade curriculum covers a wide range of literature including Elie Wiesel's Holocaust memoir Night, two dramas focused on witchcraft, ambition, and accusations, Arthur Miller's play The Crucible and William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth. We will also read a third play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams , an exploration about class in America, dreams and illusions, and finally we will read J.D. Salinger's coming of age novel, The Catcher in the Rye, about a lost teenager coping with the hypocrisies of life.

Junior year is a critical year. This year students will sit for the New York State English Regents Exam (Regents level students will take the exam in January and honors students will take the exam in June). Additionally, college bound students should take the SATs this year. This class will prepare students for both exams.
